Five Easy Steps to Enroll

NOTE: with the exception of step 2, the images below are linked to the forms they describe; if you print this document or leave it open in a window, you can follow the instructions from 1 to 5 to complete the process.

  1. If you already have a Digital Classroom account on our system (for example, if you took the course last year), proceed to step 3. Otherwise, fill out the account registration form, which will require you to make up a username and password, and supply your email address and other information (details).

You will need to be able to receive email from course@small-trials.keen-minds.org, so please make sure your email system is configured to accept email from that address. Ensure that you type your email address correctly, as a mistyped address is the most common cause of account registration failure! We do NOT take steps to enable receipt of our email at your end; if such steps are required, YOU will have to take them.

  2. Check your email for a message with instructions and a link to confirm your new account registration (details).

NOTE: if you do not receive the confirmation email message, there is likely an email configuration problem at your end (see FAQ below).

After selecting the confirmation link in the email message, your web client should display a message that your registration has been confirmed. Proceed directly to step 4, skipping step 3.

  3. Login to the Digital Classroom.

After completing this form, you will automatically be presented with a course enrollment key.

  5. Enroll in the course using the enrollment key from the previous step (details). If you are logged in, course enrollment is still open, and you have not yet enrolled in the course, you will see this on the course enrollment page:

Enter the enrollment key in the specified text box. Then, after selecting "Enroll me in this course," you should see the the web page for the course itself — be certain to bookmark this web site, which provides everything you need to participate in the course.

All important course announcements will be sent to you via email, but in case your receipt of email is unreliable (as it is for many of us, due to errors in automated spam filtering, etc.) it is a advisable to periodically check the "Course News" discussion forum on the course web site. The web site also provides all course materials, and various other discussion forums. Please do NOT try to download lecture notes just before or during a live lecture, which can cause server overloads — download materials well in advance or wait until after the lecture.

You are now enrolled — enjoy the course!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I obtain the course enrollment key?

A: The course enrollment key, along with a link to the course enrollment page, will be provided to you after you login to the Digital Classroom and submit the course registration form (that is, after completing steps 1 through 4 above). Please note that the course registration form is separate and distinct from both the account registration form and the course enrollment page.

Q: I have not received an account confirmation email. What do I do now?

A: First: are you certain that you typed your email address correctly? A mistyped address is the most common cause of account registration failure.

Second, if you have multiple email accounts, ensure that you are checking the mailbox for the same email account you used during registration.

Third, check your email system to see if your confirmation email has inadvertently been filed under a "spam email" or "junk email" folder. The exact folder depends on your particular email system and is beyond the scope of this document. There are other ways in which well-intentioned mail filtering systems can go awry: consult your local system administrator. Note: if you employ a service such as "Boxbe," which will send us email asking us to confirm that we intend to send email to you, we will NOT respond to such mail. We do NOT take steps to enable receipt of our email at your end; if such steps are required, YOU will have to take them.

Fourth, be certain that your email system is configured to accept email from course@small-trials.keen-minds.org. Exactly how to do this depends on your local email system, and is beyond the scope of this document. Failure to accept email from this address will prevent email responses to your requests for assistance from getting through as well.

If you can not find the confirmation email within your local mail system, and are certain that you can receive email from the course, contact the course administrator to remove your account, so that you restart the registration process from the beginning.

Q: What do I do if my password is not accepted during account registration?

A: Be certain that your password is at least eight characters long, and contains at least one upper case letter (A-Z), one lower case letter (a-z), one digit (0-9), and one non-alphanumeric character (comma, period, exclamation point, dollar sign, percent symbol, underscore, etc.).

Q: Why do I get the message "Sorry, but you do not currently have permissions to do that (View a questionnaire)?"

A: You need to login to the Digital Classroom first.
